Theme
The theme switch answers “can I read this in my lighting?” Tayga has a light and a dark theme, and by default follows your operating system’s setting.
The theme switch
Section titled “The theme switch”The switch is the last button in the header (before the user menu, when sign-in is on). Its icon shows the current mode: a sun for light, a moon for dark, and a monitor for system. Each click moves to the next mode: light, then dark, then system, then light again. System follows your operating system’s light or dark setting, and changes with it while the page is open.
Hover over or focus the button to see a tooltip with the current mode and the next one (screen readers read the same label), for example “Theme: dark. Switch to system”.
System is the default. Your choice is stored in your browser (per browser, not per account) and applied before the page first paints, so there is no flash of the wrong theme. If the browser blocks storage, the choice lasts until you reload.
You can also set the theme from the command palette: Theme: Light, Theme: Dark or Theme: System. The sign-in page has the same switch in its top right corner.
The switch cross-fades the colours for a fifth of a second; with reduced motion turned on in your system, it changes at once. Charts, the service map and the waterfall follow the theme.
- Use System if your operating system switches between light and dark during the day.
- Error and slow colours keep their meaning in both themes: red for errors, amber for slow.
