Sign-in

The sign-in page answers “who may see this Tayga?” It appears only when your operator has turned authentication on. Tayga has one account, set in its configuration; there are no roles. With authentication off, which is the default, there is no sign-in and /login just opens the Stories page.

To turn it on, see Authentication.

  1. Open any Tayga page. Without a session, you are sent to /login, and the page remembers where you were going.

  2. Enter the Username (the field has focus already) and the Password.

  3. Select Sign in or press Enter. The button says “Signing in…” while it waits.

  4. Tayga opens the page you were going to, or the Stories page.

The page has no rail or header, only the form and a theme switch in the top right corner.

The form shows the reason in red under the fields, clears the password and puts the cursor back in it; the username stays. The card shakes briefly, unless your system asks for reduced motion.

Message Meaning
Wrong username or password. The credentials do not match.
Too many attempts, try again in N s Too many failed attempts from your address: Tayga allows 5 failed attempts per 5 minutes, then waits.
Cannot reach Tayga. Check the connection and try again. The browser could not reach the API.
Sign-in failed (HTTP N). Try again. Any other error from the API.

A session lasts 12 hours by default; your operator can change that with auth.session_ttl. When it expires, or is revoked, the next request sends you to the sign-in page, and back to the same page after you sign in again. If you open /login while you are signed in, you go straight on.

With authentication on, the header ends with a chip showing your username (only the icon on a phone). Select it to open the menu:

  • Signed in as your username;
  • Sign out: ends the session and opens the sign-in page. If it fails, the menu says “Couldn’t sign out, try again” and you stay signed in.

The command palette has the same Sign out action.

Parameter Values Meaning
next a path on the same Tayga, such as /map?service=payment Where to go after signing in. Anything that is not a path on the same site is ignored, and you land on the Stories page.
  • Bookmark pages as usual: when your session has expired, the bookmark goes through the sign-in page and then to the page itself.
  • Use a password manager: the fields are marked as username and current password, so it can fill them in.
